Hi Sonia, Carl and Peter,

I hope you’re all keeping well.

Phoebe and I are returning to our nomadic ‘office’ after taking some time off, and traveling and recording segments for the new Climate Repair Café and Climate Learning Session series.

Following on from the lunch meeting I had with Peter and Carl, I’d like to bring you all up to speed on where we are in terms of production and funding.

1.  The Climate Repair Café

This series follows on from the Climate Restorers with a snappier, slightly irreverent - but still positive approach to the climate and the ways people are responding to it.

We cover a wide range of climate related subjects, from cloud brightening to covering 2 scientists in Ukraine (Kyiv and Chernobyl) to exploring the CO2 cost of cremations and the less impactful alternatives. Please watch the treatment:

I still need to record the presenters Curtis McGann (actor) and Kelsi Umeko (actor and presenter for Microsoft and Pokémon channel). I also need to film on the sail-powered cargo ship in Le Havre at the beginning of February.

1.  BROADCAST

  • We launched the concept of the series with a trailer and a few video shorts at EarthX Conference of Conferences in Dallas and had a lot of interest.

  • We would, of course, work with Bomanbridge in this regard.

  • My discussions at the time explored a non-exclusive co-production, allowing Transmedia to simultaneously stream and utilize other delivery options. This had appeal as the value of having exclusivity of the Climate Repair Café carries little added value

  • I understand that your preference (and the broadcast market) is for 1 hour slot content, but the content and format doesn’t seem to work for this duration.

  • We can re-shoot and replace presenters with other nationalities if it makes financial sense. I can shoot 3 episodes per day…

2.  STREAM & STREAM BASED

  • The same points as for broadcasts: I imagine there would be more interest in streaming the content rather than broadcasting.

  • I don’t know what appetite there is for this content internationally – maybe Australia, Canada, UK and parts of Europe as we are now producing more Anglo and Euro content.

3.  FUNDING

  • Broadcasting income hasn’t amounted to much with The Climate Restorers, but it id help leverage financial support from a number of organizations, individuals and groups.

  • We have a reliable,  initial commitment of $100,000 and again, will be underwriting the shortfall.

  • We have good connections with a number of foundations and organizations that are supportive, and anticipate converting a range of this support into funding and sponsorship.

1.  The Climate Learning Sessions

This is an educational series designed to inform youth from around the world in clear understandable terms, where we currently stand with the climate and what research and work is being undertaken to address this.

Each session is presenter driven and concludes with drawing questions around how the community of the audience has been affected by climate and what options there are to become involved.

This series of 'sessions' is a response to youth groups requesting screenings of the Climate Restorers. We felt that the series would not land well with youth due to duration and presentation...

1.  DISTRIBUTION

I'm not sure how this could fit into Bomanbridge's distribution models, but open to exploring if there’s interest.

The sessions will be provided free of charge to youth organizations that express concern over climate issues and empowerment.

We are building a web-based interface to allow for different youth groups to view and comment on the content. Thereafter, the aim is to encourage cross-pollination between different youth groups regarding how they have been affected by climate and what options may be available to mitigate.

We have been approached by representatives from:

  • The world scouting association Saudi Arabia

  • The world scouting association Kenya

  • The Franciscan Youth Ministry

  • Foundation for Climate Restoration Youth

Funding

Funding will come from corporate and organizational sponsorship
